Reading to Heathrow is roughly 28 miles east on the M4; the drive takes about forty minutes, making it one of the shortest long distance airport routes we list. The area known for its technological and pharmaceutical industries is located along this route, thus making the traffic mostly business related: colleagues, clients and employees on business trips.

Short trips don't equal easy trips. There is very heavy commuter traffic on the M4 between Reading and the airport, and there is a huge difference between a six and an eight o'clock departure.

Reading is well connected, and the times are all close together: about forty minutes by car, roughly forty-five on the Elizabeth line with a change at Hayes & Harlington, and around fifty by coach from the station to Terminal 5.

So speed isn't really what decides this. The Thames Valley's business parks, the hotels around them, and the residential streets aren't within walking distance of the station, so every option starts with a taxi regardless.
